Bought a Bungalow At a Half Price, Guan Eng’s Answered With the Funniest Tunes

(Malay Mail) Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today said the property he bought was not a luxury home, after critics alleged irregularity in its purchase price.

The DAP secretary-general was responding to Barisan Nasional lawmakers who demanded a corruption investigation against him for the purchase of his previously-rented home in Penang, for what they alleged was an abnormally low price.

“It is not a mansion and has no swimming pool,” Lim was quoted as saying by news portal Malaysiakini.

“I will respond to the matter at a press conference tomorrow.”

According to the BN lawmakers led by Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Shabudin Yahaya, Lim bought the house for RM2.8 million when the property had in 2008 been valued at RM2.5 million.

They insisted that it was improbable that the home’s value only appreciated RM300,000 since 2008, and likened Lim to former Selangor mentri besar Dr Khir Toyo who bought a mansion at below market price through corrupt practices.
